One of the things that I appreciate the most is being able to visit the places that I have studied about in class. It’s a totally different impression from reading a book to physically witnessing it in person. While in Rome, I visited many of the historic landmarks it has to offer, but one that has left the most impression was the Colosseum. Going inside and just trying to imagine how it used to look was extremely cool. I have even seen it featured in movies, but once again it’s much better in person.
I know I have mentioned gelato before, but this time around I have to mention it once more since it’s from Italy! The real deal! The truth is that it’s the best I have ever tasted. While I was waiting in the long line at the shop that was located next to the Vatican, to get my first cone, my mouth was already watering. Of course I had to get my favorite flavor, which is mango. But once I was told that I can choose two other flavors, I was mind blown because the cone was going to overflow. I couldn’t decide what other flavors I wanted so I asked the young man to decide for me. To top it off, whip cream was added. It was a delicious experience in Rome.
Everyone that saw my facial expression the second I saw camels could not stop repeating it to me for the rest of the day. I think the camel ride was just incredible because of course I have never been on one and I also wanted to have that typical Africa picture. Now that leads me to the most important part of the whole Morocco trip. Morocco, Africa was nothing like what television depicts Africa as. Since that was my first trip to the continent and also keeping in mind that it’s only a small part of it, I just could not wrap my head around the fact that it contained parts that even reminded me of Spain. There were mountains everywhere. On my trip to Morocco, there was not much time to visit Ceuta which is part of Spain. Luckily, we drove past it and it was powerful to be able to see the border which many Moroccans wish to cross. It felt as though I was witnessing two different worlds from the outside. In Morocco, the society was either really well off or the complete opposite. Standing at this point, really made me reflect on what goes through the mind of an immigrant.
