Nestled off the coast of Morocco and Western Sahara, lies a group of islands that I would constantly see heavenly images of on Instagram. Little did I know that it was $35 and three and a half hours away from where I currently reside!
While Gran Canaria is a part of Spain, from my experience, it was quite different from mainland Madrid. Beyond the breathtaking natural views, and tropical climate, the culture also seemed to be a bit more laid back. The constant sunshine brings people out onto the streets, fills the air with a sense of relaxation, and allows for anyone and everyone to take in the beauty of the land.
While Madrid is still quite relaxed, there is always the hustle and bustle of a major city; this was truly a getaway from all things urgent, and allowed me to experience a true melting pot, where numerous cultures mixed and thrived. (Submitted on February 8, 2024)
