Oracle of Delphi

Submitted by Marissa Pereira on the 2024 Winter ENGL202-070 program in Athens, Greece…

This week, our class took a trip to Delphi to visit the Oracle of Delphi. This site was used in Ancient Greece when a Pythian Priestess would recite prophecies that were said to be delivered to her by the Greek god Apollo. We took a tour of this site and were able to see the ancient ruins. The Temple of Apollo is housed at this site, as the oracle revolved around the god of music, art, poetry, the sun, and much more. Many Ancient Greeks would travel from all over to visit the Pythian Priestesses to receive guidance. These Priestesses would often smell fumes coming from the fissures in the temple, and then they would offer their wisdom. After our tour through the Delphi ruins, we were able to stop in the beautiful town of Arachova and enjoy the mountainous view. (Submitted on January 18, 2024)
