This week, I got to be on a general surgery rotation. It was so cool to see the differences in the specialty in the United States and Italy. In Italy, general surgery is a much broader specialty including parts of the body that aren’t included in the United States. I also got to learn that in Italy, medicine focuses a lot on preventative care. This is something that truly peaked my interest. In the United States ,there is some focus on preventative care, but here in Italy it seems that this is a major focus which I think is fundamentally important for better overall health. Along with my rotation this week, some of my classmates and I got to take a day trip to the city of Verona. We got to see the Arena as well Juliet’s balcony. When we are not shadowing within the hospital, we take advantage to explore as much as possible!
