Italy: St. Peter’s Square

Submitted by Lydia Fimmano on the 2022 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

St. Peter’s Square has quickly become a favorite spot of my study abroad group. We first visited it the day we arrived and were in awe of its beauty. Since then, we have gone back many times to just admire it. Every time that I am there, I notice something else amazing about its structure. One day, we decided to climb the dome up to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica. After 551 steps and many spiral staircases, we finally made it up and could see all of Rome. We stayed up there for a while and just took in its beauty. Many of us even called our families to show them the view. My Italian grandparents were so happy to get a call from me and were excited that I was seeing the beautiful view. I love so many places in Rome, but it will be hard to top this one.
