Submitted by Leah Marsh on the 2022 spring semester program in Rome, Italy…
My first week in Rome has been bittersweet. With every new adventure comes its challenges, but with hard work, persistence, and a little bit of self confidence a lot can be accomplished in a new country. The language barrier is more intense than I had originally anticipated, which at first terrified me. However, after a week of picking up small vocabulary words from locals, working together with my friends, and using google translate when in a bind, I already feel more comfortable. I intend on continuously practicing my Italian and using it to work my way around the country. Over the next four months, I look forward to many more learning opportunities during my time abroad.
