England: Becoming Comfortable

Submitted by Spencer Jones on the 2020 winter session study abroad program in London, England sponsored by the Department of Communication…

This past week has been very exciting as well as a bit of a wake up call for how little time is remaining on this program. In the past week, I have slowly expanded my range of comfortability in terms of getting around and feeling confident about knowing where I am. This is very important because there are many “dead zones” for cell service so many times using your GPS does not work. Being able to not only navigate the Tube, but also walking directions is super important in London. I also have picked up on even more cultural differences as well as tried various local dishes and beverages. For instance, I have been very keen to trying various types of teas as well as local dishes. I love food and trying new things so this has been a very fun aspect of my program.

Aside from getting used to my surroundings, I am beginning to realize this program is flying by very quickly. This is sad, but also a good time to realize I need to experience as much as I can in the next two weeks. However, I know by the end of my five weeks here in London when I am packing my bags and checking out of my hotel, I will be looking forward to going home. Yes, it will be nice to see family and friends, but I will mainly be looking forward to sharing my experience here as well as compare my culture at home to the one I will have adapted to over these five weeks. So, here is to the next two weeks, I cannot wait to make the most of them.
