Beautiful Ireland

Submitted by Megan Wagner on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Ireland and London, England sponsored by the Department of Accounting and the Department of Finance…

For the first week of the program, I have been primarily in Dublin, Ireland. The first few days were just spent exploring Ireland and getting familiar with the area. One of the first things I noticed was how friendly everyone is here. People will stop in the street and ask if you need directions and are commonly saying “hello” or “happy new year”. This is so different from the United States and it surprised me.

Some of my classmates and I decided to take a day trip to Limerick, Ireland which is west of Dublin. While there, we visited a few different cathedrals along with King John’s Castle. This was interesting because it is an older city and much of the original buildings have some Viking history embedded in them. You could definitely see the difference a few hundred years can make in the architecture.

Additionally, as a group, we took an excursion to Northern Ireland. We did a “Game of Thrones” tour and were able to see the green countryside of Ireland, which was absolutely beautiful. The place where we spent the most time was the Giant’s Causeway. It was probably the most beautiful place that I have ever seen and it made me feel so incredibly lucky to be on this program experiencing it.
