The traditional Argentinian asado started in the pampas of Argentina where the people were very fond of beef, especially asado, which is roasted beef. Asado is now a very popular meal including beef, pork, chicken, chorizo and morcilla cooked on a grill, called a parilla, or an open fire. The meats are normally accompanied by red wine and a salad. The asado is prepared by a person who is called the asador. In the case of my host family, the asador is my host dad. Every week, he grills carne (beef), chorizo, papas (potatoes), and bell peppers with an egg cooked inside. Dinner also includes a salad, bread and red wine. Asado is typically a social event, and lots of family members come over to eat with us, socialize and enjoy the company.
