Spain: Small Town

Submitted by Blanca Sandoval on the 2017 summer session program in Granada, Spain sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures…

What appealed to me the most about Córdoba was the Judería (Jewish section). I really liked the narrow roads, the cute white colored townhouses with small balconies and the simple feeling of being in a small town. Personally, I am not a city girl. Being around too many cars and large buildings really frustrates me after a while. The Judería reminded me a little of el Albaicín which I really liked as well due to the relaxing feeling that I get when I am walking through the narrow roads.

I also really liked walking through a specific alley that had many flowers hanging from the wall. I love flowers and seeing how they incorporate them as part of the outside wall decoration really impresses me.

The Mezquita Cathedral was an amazing place. It’s no wonder that the Christians did not want to tear it down, but rather build the cathedral around the Mezquita because the construction was already amazing. I really liked the rounded arches as the ceiling because it is not a typical to see something like it anywhere else. Córdoba, overall is a very cute town, although the only downfall is that it becomes very hot during the summer which doesn’t allow tourists to enjoy or explore much of beauty of the town.
