Romance in Granada, Spain

Sooo… I don’t think this happens on everyone’s study abroad…

Last week my boyfriend came to visit me, and he stayed for 12 awesome days! And in the course of that time we did a few crazy things. The first was rent a car. Corey thought I was nuts for deciding to rent a car in a foreign country, where we only sort of understood the traffic laws, and drive four hours north to another city, without a GPS. And he was partly right, but we only got a little bit lost. Mostly we just took a detour that led us to explore the super cool windmills of la Mancha- for any of you who have taken a Spanish lit class, you will recognize this as significant. For those of you who have not, there is a rather famous scene in Don Quijote (most important work in Spanish lit) where he fights with windmills while thinking that they are giants.

But car rentals and driving were not the most exciting or crazy thing that we did in Toledo. The crazy thing that we did was… get engaged! It finally happened! We decided that after five and a half years of dating, it was finally time to stop talking about it and finally take a leap. So we went on a ring hunt. That was interesting. I didn’t know how to say engagement ring at first, so all they showed us initially were wedding bands. After going through several shops, we ended up going back and buying the first one that we liked.

So we had the ring, and then we just kind of relaxed a little and walked around, had lunch, talked some more, and finally, when I wasn’t quite expecting it, Corey proposed in the plaza in front of the cathedral. It was so sweet, and I had to sit down afterwards because I was shaking so badly! And now… all I can think about is planning the wedding! My Pinterest board has received more attention in the last week than in the last four months!
