Just 15 minutes from where we have been staying all month, I discovered a unique destination called Camden Town. This place is the home to unique markets, live music and food from all over the world. The markets ranged from handmade jewelry, to paintings, to vintage clothes that were worn back in the 50’s. The cuisine offered authentic Italian, Mexican, German, Indian and many more. I was lucky enough to sample dishes that I’ve never had before from a wide range of places. We had the chance to talk with some of these chefs and understand their love for their culture and its food. The atmosphere was upbeat and seemed to be a place that brought all different types of people to one common ground. Seeing the integration of so many different cultures here was fascinating to observe, and led me to a whole new appreciation for different societies. Not one that cannot be taught in a classroom, but one that can only truly be understood by going out and placing yourself into the culture. Leaving Camden Town brought me to the realization that study abroad will force you to learn things that you can’t find in a textbook.
