Italy: Rome’s Many Cities

Submitted by Greta Sweeney on the 2017 spring semester program in Rome, Italy…

One of the amazing things about the city of Rome is that in its city, there are many other cities. Built on top of one another over the hundreds of years, there is so much to explore and learn about the many different cities that once stood here. While studying in Rome, I am enrolled in two art history classes, which both happen to be on-site. That means every Monday and Thursday, my professors take my class out onto the streets and we are able to use the city as our classroom. Going from Pompeii to Tiber Island to the Roman Forum, I am able to see what the Romans built with my own eyes. Being able to use the city and its monuments and museums as a learning resource is such a unique experience that Rome has to offer. I can’t wait to explore everything that this beautiful city has to offer!
