France: Mont St Michel

Submitted by Olivia Toth on the 2016 fall semester study abroad program in Paris, France…

This weekend, we escaped the hustle and bustle of Paris and visited Mont St Michel in Normandy, France.  The towns in this region are quite different than what I’m used to in Paris, but it was nice to see a quainter side of France.  Most of the small towns we stopped at along the way were old fishing towns, and very cute and quiet.  When we finally got to Mont St Michel, I was stunned.  It felt like we were walking up to something out of a movie.  Lucky for us, it was a beautiful day, and the views from the top of Mont St Michel were amazing.  I had no idea before visiting, but there’s almost a small town at the base of Mont St Michel, and it was very fun to explore this little island like village.  As the day went on, we could see the tides rolling in up around the island.  I always remembered learning about this place in high school so it was cool to see this actually happening.  We didn’t have to worry about getting stranded though because nowadays there is a permanent bridge you can access at any time.  The visit to Normandy, France was definitely a highlight of my program so far, and it is always good to escape the city for a little bit.montstmichel-olivia-toth-16f-paris-sm
