Study Tour to Hamburg, Germany – Week 4

This week, I had the opportunity to travel to Hamburg, Germany with my Holocaust and Genocide course. While we were there, we spent some time exploring the city and looking at notable sites of WWII history. We visited both the Neuengamme and Bergen Belsen concentration camps, where we were able to learn about history in the site where it really took place. Although this was an emotional experience, it was truly unforgettable and I feel as though I am better able to understand and talk about this history as a result of seeing it with my own eyes. We also saw the spire of Hauptkirche Sankt Nikolai, a target of Allied bombing during Operation Gomorrah. Our study tour concluded with authentic german weinerschnitzel and weifsbier. I love having Europe as my classroom! (Submitted on February 18, 2024)
