The next portion of our trip was spent in Rome for 5 days. Our hotel was in a central part of the town, about a 5-minute walk from the Colosseum! Throughout the week we visited several tourist locations, including the Colosseum, Trevi fountain, St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel, and Vatican City. We had a unique opportunity to travel to Trastevere and tour a pharmacy that still had most of the medications, herbal remedies, and pieces of equipment that were used hundreds of years ago. Then, we visited the first hospital that had running water, on the smallest inhabited island in the world, Tiber Island. This part of our trip consisted of lots of pasta and gelato, which was different from our time in Naples which focused on pizza. We met quite a few other students who were studying abroad in local shops, since there are many universities nearby. Now, on our way to Florence to finish off our trip! (Submitted on January 18, 2024)
