Week in the Greek Hospital

Submitted by Paige Beam on the 2024 Winter HLTH program in Athens, Greece…

This week I was job shadowing in a hospital called Evangelismos in Athens Greece. I was on the General Surgery floor and was able to watch a tumor removal. It is very interesting to compare the Greek healthcare system to the US. For example, there are six people per room, when in the US there are private rooms or doubles. Another difference I saw was the nurse’s role. In the US nurses have a lot of responsibilities, where in Greece they are not even allowed to take vitals. The surgeons do all vitals except temperature. (Submitted on January 12, 2024)
