The most beautiful views of the city of Pompei were seen at the top of Mount Vesuvius. Climbing to the top of a mountain is not an easy feat, but the views from the top were so rewarding. As described by our tour guide, Pompei is a “sleeping beauty” because almost every detail from the volcanic eruption is still intact. I saw the preserved individuals who were covered in the ashes from the eruption as well as several pieces of jewelry. It was so interesting to be able to fully immerse myself in this part of history because I have learned about the events that occurred in Pompei throughout high school and middle school. After taking a tour of the city of Pompei, the group hiked to the top of Mount Vesuvius. Once I got to the top, it was one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. I saw the entire city of Naples as well as the crater of Mount Vesuvius. I cannot wait to experience the other cities of this study abroad trip and compare different aspects of culture and history.
