My First Week in London

Submitted by Brooke Attix on the 2024 Winter program in London, England…

So, I just wrapped up my first week in London, it was insane! I’ve been all over the place, from hitting up some of the most famous spots to trying out a bunch of different restaurants and pubs. Let’s get into it!

This is a photo of some of the mummies from the Egyptian exhibition. I didn’t get a photo of the actual mummies because they sort of creeped me out!

The British Museum

First stop, the British Museum. This place is HUGE and packed with cool stuff. There’s everything from Egyptian mummies to ancient Greek sculptures (personally, the mummies really creeped me out). I probably spent way too long there, but it was totally worth it. It’s like walking through a history book, but way more fun. You’ll definitely need to dedicate multiple days to exploring the whole museum!

Big Ben

Next up, the iconic Big Ben. It’s under some restoration, but that didn’t stop me from taking a million pictures. The architecture is pretty mind-blowing. Seeing Big Ben was the first time it really sank in that I get to stay in the wonderful city of London. The whole area of Westminster is a must see if you are ever in London!

The National Gallery

Then, I hit the National Gallery. They’ve got paintings from all the big names, from Van Gogh to Da Vinci. I was in awe of this place. The artwork was breathtaking and made me feel a little emotional at times. I would definitely visit this place more than once because photos do not do it justice.

Foodie and Pub Adventures

Let’s talk about food. London’s restaurant scene is wild. I’ve had everything from classic fish and chips to some really good Indian food (Chicken Tikka Masala is my new fav!). And the pubs, they’re everywhere, and each one’s got its own vibe. Great for chilling after a long day of touristy stuff.

This is a photo of me in front of Big Ben! We decided to move a bit farther away from the crowd to try and get better photos. I think they turned out pretty well!

Final Thoughts

It’s been a whirlwind of sightseeing, eating, and just soaking in the vibes of this amazing city. I’ve walked so much my feet hurt, but it’s all been 100% worth it. Can’t wait to see what the next week brings!
