Submitted by Emma Davis on the 2024 Winter ENGL/THEA program in London, England…
My first week in London has been so busy and exciting! I am quickly adjusting to living in London while balancing the many excursions I have been on with my peers. So far, we have been learning about British romanticism and romantic writers. With my program, we have been able to explore the homes of Charles Dickens and John Keats, two romantic writers. In my free time, I have been able to explore London on my own and have seen many of its famous landmarks such as Big Ben, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge. While living here I have also been learning the subtleties of English culture. I have found myself adapting to their social norms. For example, while waiting in a line individuals use the term “queue” instead of the term “line.” Learning the little differences between our formalities is what makes studying abroad so interesting!
