As a part of an English study abroad program in The Netherlands for a class called Environmental Non-fiction, our class is looking into the different ways the Netherlands and the United States communicate environmental issues such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, etc… Today as a part of our first week of classes and excursions we visited a Dutch National Park called De Alde Faenen. There we learned how this specific park has managed to combat issues like flooding and soil erosion. Instead of using traditional dirt, they use peat, which is compacted organic material that can absorb much of the water from flood seasons. (Submitted on January 11, 2024)
