A Cat on the Acropolis

Submitted by Jennifer O’Leary on the 2024 Winter ENGL micro program in Athens, Greece…

The first picture was taken of the Parthenon. This ancient ruin was built approximately 2,500 years ago and is currently in the process of being partially restored and preserved. It is located on the Athenian Acropolis, which means the height of the city. The purpose of this historical landmark is to be closer to the Gods, it is used as protection in war. The Parthenon is one of three temples that remain on the Acropolis. This specific temple was built in less than fifteen years, and the roof was partially destroyed when the Ottomans shot a cannonball at it. It was very cold up there, so we needed to wear lots of layers. It was very interesting to me that there were quite a few cats on the top of the Acropolis. That must have been a hike for them! Tomorrow we are going to visit the Acropolis Museum. I am very excited because our tour guide said it is one of the best international museums. (Submitted on January 10, 2024)
