Spain: Visit to Barcelona

Submitted by Cameron Kravitz on the 2022 spring semester program in Madrid, Spain…

After a week filled with classes and exploring Madrid, we had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona for the weekend! In Barcelona, we visited La Sagrada Familia church which was just as beautiful from the outside as it was from the inside where it had colorful stained glass windows. La Sagrada Familia was designed by Antoni Gaudí, a Catalan architect who also worked on Park Güell, which is another stunning attraction that has gardens, mosaic tiles, and sculptures. Since it was warm, we also went to Barceloneta Beach where we ate dinner while we watched and listened to performers in the area. In comparison to Madrid, one of the things that I noticed was how Barcelona seemed to have more tourists. Also, people in Barcelona speak Catalan whereas people in Madrid speak Castilian Spanish. Overall, I absolutely loved being able to spend the weekend in Barcelona since we got to know another city in Spain along with appreciating its architecture, cuisine, and culture!
