Italy: In Just One Week

Submitted by Timothy Mulderrig on the 2022 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

Week 3 of study abroad was HUGE! We did so much. We visited Florence where we climbed the Duomo, climbed the tower of the Medici Palace, toured the Uffizi art gallery (where La Primavera is exhibited) and toured the Academia to see the David statue. The art and culture in Florence was so incredible. I am not typically someone who enjoys art museums, but these were so awe inspiring! Later in the week, we took day trips to the ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Ostia Antica. Finally, we  toured the Vatican Museum, where we saw the famous School of Athens painting by Rafael and the incredible ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. All of these trips were absolutely amazing; we are getting such an eclectic mix of Roman, Renaissance, and Christian history and culture on this program.
