Greece: Have a Backup Plan

Submitted by Dara McNally on the 2022 spring semester program in Athens, Greece…

This week was largely uneventful, with a few things to note. I went to Monastiraki with a friend and the trip there and back was pretty informative. A few weeks ago, I went to Syntagma with a different friend and we took a bus to the station and took the metro to Syntagma. We’d hoped to make the same trip back to the dorms, but we found out the bus we took was no longer running for that night so we had to figure out another bus route home.  We ended up walking most of the way because we didn’t know the bus routes. But this week, I tried something a little different on the way there. On the signs at the bus stops, it will tell you what buses stop there. So on the ride to the station, I read the signs of the nearby bus stops to see what other buses stopped at them. That way, I had a backup plan in case the bus I intended to take had closed for the evening. I would definitely make backup plans to get home before traveling!
