This week was, by far, the most interesting. It started out with the National Archeological Museum, which was fabulous. I really enjoyed that museum purely for the fact of how many complete and almost-complete statues they showed! It is rare that a museum can acquire that quantity of statues. Besides the statues, the museum had a lot of great artifacts, which I liked, too. Then, on Tuesday, we were hit with the Elpis snowstorm, claiming to be the worst one in over ten years! My friends and I had the best snowball fight after class and walked throughout Pangrati to see the views. After that, we were given another snow day, but three of us unfortunately tested positive for COVID. Our schedule was changed for the rest of the program, but we adapted and made the best of it!
On the 27th, our program listened to a fantastic lecture from Daphne Matziaraki who produced 4.1 Miles and is very passionate about her work. Afterwards, we headed to a playhouse and saw a fabulous one-hour performance. The 28th was arguably the best day on the program in my opinion! On that day, we visited the island of Aegina and it was the perfect blend of historical learning and free time – plus the island itself was absolutely stunning!
To conclude, this three-week program has been one of the best experiences I have ever had and will be one of the best ones I ever have. I so enjoyed every second of it and loved experiencing all the locations, cultures, food, and histories stored here in Greece. Finally, Dr. Tyson was just fantastic in every way possible.
