My group and I took a day trip to Girona with our advisors last weekend. It immediately became clear how rich the history of the city was. Our tour guide informed us of the different historical eras that were preserved: stairs in the Jewish quarter, the ancient Cathedral, and old forts used to defend the city. The most powerful part of the trip was when we ate in a small sandwich shop, and our guide explained how walls and stones inside the shop itself were centuries old. There is something very fascinating about the collision of ancient and modern cultures. We were reminded that history is often all around us – we just have to know where to look.
