After our first week in Italy, I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful a city Trieste is! The highlight of this week was our group tour around the city. We got to explore all the extravagant landmarks that make this city famous. This week, I was on a urology rotation within the hospital, a specialty that I didn’t know much about previously. I got to shadow a surgery which was an eye-opening experience for me. Before this week, I never had any interest in surgery because I was not sure if I could handle the mental and physical toll it takes on someone. I realized through this first rotation that surgery is something that has peaked my interest. During the weeks to come, I am excited to learn about other specialties in the hope that I might discover a specialty that I could pursue in the future. After one week, I can truly say that this program is already a core memory and can only get better from here!
