France: Trying New Foods

Submitted by Meghan Desmond on the 2022 winter session program in France sponsored by the Department of Material Sciences and Engineering and the Department of Physics and Astronomy…

This weekend in France, our group traveled to Paris. It was interesting to see how many more tourists and English speaking French people there were in Paris compared to Marseille. The one thing I noticed was how friendly everyone in Paris was versus Marseille which might be since Marseille is less of a tourist destination. We visited all of the major landmarks and my favorite was the Arc de Triomphe because it had a great view of Paris once you climbed to the top.

We have been trying new food when we travel to new towns in France and so far we have tried Tunisian and Pakistani food. This weekend, we tried snails and Ethiopian food in Paris. The snails were surprisingly good and tasted like mussels in garlic and butter. The Ethiopian food was also delicious and I had some coffee after our meal. Coffee beans actually originated from Ethiopia and it was the best coffee I have ever had.
