After leaving Rome, I was really excited for Florence. I’ve heard so many good things about this city, and it definitely did not disappoint. The second we stepped off the bus, I knew I was going to be happy here. The shops, roads, and the friendliness of the people were everything I expected and more. Although I enjoyed aspects of Rome, it was just not it for me. Florence on the other hand, is the real deal. My first meal in Florence was UNREAL. We got pizza, and as I mentioned before, my pizza in Rome was :(…..so I wasn’t sure what to expect in Florence. We went to Gustapizza, and it was absolutely phenomenal. I finally felt like I was having real pizza (similar to where I’m from in New York). After the first bite, I immediately knew this city would be for me. So, Rome: 0, Florence:1
Also, the city is BEAUTIFUL. The Ponte Vecchio is so unbelievable that my Mom thought the background was fake when I sent her a picture. Walking over that bridge, looking out at the water, passing the shops and endless gelato stands, I was just so happy. It was hard for me to adjust in Rome, but I had no trouble getting used to Florence. I honestly wish we had more time here because I finally feel less anxious about being abroad.
Lastly, Florence is a lot smaller than Rome, which I appreciate a lot. Everything you need is within walking distance, and a lot closer than everything was in Rome. Rome was a bit overwhelming and I felt like people were on top of me the whole time. But in Florence, I actually feel like I can walk down the street without feeling like I’m going to be trampled. I like a more relaxed vibe, which is definitely what this city is all about.
