France: Great Week, to Say the Least

Submitted by Badiallo Diani on the 2020 winter session study abroad program in Paris, France sponsored by the Department of Biological Sciences…

The last week here was great to say the least. To start, everyone was just now feeling comfortable navigating the city and with the culture, but we were leaving soon 🙁 Aside from a final presentation I had to give on Wednesday, and my final exam on Thursday, we were determined to squeeze as much as we could into this last week. Mine was filled with buying last minute gifts and shopping just because “when else am I going to get the chance to shop in Paris?” I got some beautiful antique jewelry and some invigorating perfume called Belle Cherie. In addition, we got some berets and gifts for parents, and ended at an Italian place eating the best pizza I’ve had in my life!

On Thursday, half of us went to the Catacombs (not me because – watch As Above, So Below on Netflix), and the other half went to the Museum of Science and Industry. It was incredibly interactive — and to be honest, probably geared towards elementary school students, but it had a planetarium (that was completely in French), and a cute little aquarium! The next day, we went to Musee d’Orsay which had amazing artwork and paintings from 18th and 19th century France, and also a very aesthetic clock that we all needed a picture by. We also went to Les Galeries LaFayette which is this huge mall that has this amazing stain-glass dome on top. On Saturday, there was a three course meal at a fancy restaurant in which I had l’oignon soupe, beef bourguignon, and creme brulee! Best meal I had the entire program! To finish off our time in Paris, some friends and I visited Sainte-Chapelle, a beautiful royal chapel with amazing stained glass, and had crepes at the Eiffel Tower for the last time 🙁 This was by far, the best time of my life.
