Italy: The Epiphany

Submitted by Sabrina Bellantoni on the 2020 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of History…

On Monday, 1/6, I had the pleasure of observing a holiday that I have never celebrated, the Epiphany. The Epiphany is a Christian holiday that is involved with the birth of Jesus and widely celebrated within Italy. My class and I had the opportunity to watch a beautiful parade that marched through the cobblestone paths of Piazza Della Signoria. The members of the parade played music and held the flag of Florence. There were animals within the parade, too! It was an amazing experience to immerse myself in this traditional Italian holiday!
