Italy: New Interest in Italian Culture

Submitted by Joshua Huynh on the 2020 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of History…

My first week in Italy has been absolutely amazing both in terms of improving as a world scholar as well as immersing myself in my first experience abroad. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more and more about Italian culture and history, specifically seeing how cultures can even vary from city to city. While I’ve never been particularly drawn to Renaissance art and history, traveling and studying under Professor Trembanis has heavily increased my interest in the topic as well as wanting to learn more and more about the Italian culture as a whole. While there were points where I felt that I was ready to move on from Florence, I continue to find more and more things to try and explore throughout the city. Overall, my first week in Italy has fostered a new and burgeoning interest in Italian culture and history and has largely increased my knowledge as a global citizen.
