Italy: From City to Town

Submitted by Julia Bachar on the 2020 winter session study abroad program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

During this past week, I was amazed by all the beautiful sites and art that I was able to see. Most of the week was spent in Florence, where we stayed in a nice hotel right by the river. The highlights of Florence for me were seeing the David and also going to the Uffizi. The artwork was breathtaking and was something I had really been looking forward to. The days in Florence have been much more relaxed, and the city is definitely less busy than Rome which was refreshing. On the first night in Florence, we went to the leather markets, which was exciting, as Florence is known for its leather. Today, we came to Volterra, a small hillside town in Tuscany, which is significantly different from Rome and Florence. The language barrier is much more prominent here, and I am already missing the city style, but I am excited to relax and catch up on schoolwork.
