Hawaiian Immersion

I have had such a blast for my first week studying “away” in beautiful Hawaii! I have had so many cool experiences already and I’m super excited for more. Something I had to learn quickly this week was how to use the buses. I found myself spending a lot of time with my roommate sitting at the bus stop waiting for a bus. Even though it takes so much time waiting for the buses and figuring out which routes to take, when I finally get to my destination it’s totally worth it! Hopefully, I will figure out the bus soon! Another thing I have had to adjust to is the time change. Hawaii is 5 hours behind my hometown in Delaware.

In order to immerse myself in the Hawaiian culture I have tried new foods and visited new places. One of the foods I’ve tried is kalua pork, which is a Hawaiian traditional food that they cook underground. On one of my first days, I traveled to the Bishop Museum, where I learned about Hawaiian history like former rulers of Hawaii. Another adventure I went on was hiking to the summit of Diamond Head. The view was amazing and it was interesting to see the old war pill boxes.
