Exploring New Places in Hawaii

Submitted by Mackenzie Short on the 2020 winter session study abroad program in Hawaii sponsored by College of Education and Human Development…

Week two in Hawaii has been another eventful week. Some highlights of the week include visiting Pearl Harbor, plantation village, and exploring various new places. Pearl Harbor was a must since I was staying in Hawaii. It is such an important part of American history and it was very interesting to be looking upon the harbor where so much destruction took place many years ago.

Plantation village was also one of my favorites because it truly showcases the various cultures of people who inhabit Hawaii and gave insight on why many cultures traveled in Hawaii in the first place.

Besides those two places, I have had the opportunity to explore the island of Oahu. North Shore, Honolulu, and Manoa are among the various places I have been. Each place has its own allure, appeal, and culture to it. Through my travels this week, I have learned so much about the history and culture of Hawaii. I hope to continue to learn something new each day!
