Denmark: First Week – A Blur

Submitted by Lauren Tineo on the 2020 spring semester DIS program in Copenhagen, Denmark…

My first week in Copenhagen has been a blur. In some ways, it feels like freshman orientation again. Everyone here is in the exact same place, fresh and new in an unfamiliar city, so we are all trying to figure out our places and our friends at the same time.  I am surprised at how at home I already feel. I feel like any other commuter when I take my routine bus line. DIS is really prepared for their students, every basic thing I need for my kollegium has been provided. However, I have been buying little odds and ends almost every day. Shopping here is a lot easier than expected. Almost everything is in Danish, including the contact credit card machine, but it is pretty easy to navigate stores because the written Danish looks similar to English. Most of my free time between classes has been filled with just wandering around the city. I have found a lot of great places I want to revisit. I am amazed at how gorgeous every little building is so I do not think I will ever get sick of it.
