England: White Cliffs of Dover

Submitted by Rachael Royer on the 2019 summer session program in England sponsored by the Department of Art & Design…

Week 3 was full of great speakers, a lot of work and an adventure of a lifetime. We saw Peter Saville, one of the more legendary designers in the world and explored the Dior show in the V&A Museum. We got to go to two of my favorite ad agencies in the world: Mother and W+K. It is weird having favorite advertising companies that really excite me, but I guess it means that I am on the right path. After these visits, we explored Shoreditch and it quickly became my favorite area of London and one of my favorite areas in general. We climbed on the most interesting “rides” and explored the Nomadic Gardens, which truly felt like a different planet.

And then Saturday. Dover.

The White Cliffs of Dover felt like a new home to me. I just felt so natural and relaxed, running through the hills 350 feet in the sky. The sky was blue and the clouds were long gone, my favorite sky. We dipped into the English channel and opened to a new world. Dover really was something special and I am so happy to have gotten that experience.
