Boy oh boy, before coming to Italy, everyone would talk about how much walking you do and they were not kidding. Home for me is New Jersey and it is safe to say we drive a whole lot more than people here in Italy do. But hey, at least I am working off all the food that I have been eating! I have been in Florence for about a week now and have fallen in love with the city, culture, food and just the way of life here in general… including all the walking. Each night, my roommate and I come back to the hotel and check our phones to see how many miles we have walked that day. The first day it said we had walked over 8 miles and we couldn’t believe it. Though, as time went on and we realized how exhausted we were each night, and all the different things we had seen each day, it seemed reasonable. Making our way around Florence by foot, has allowed us to see ten times more than we would have otherwise. We have walked along the Arno, walked to the Duomo, seen both the Academy and Uffizi Gallery and have taken in all that Florence has to offer. I am beyond grateful to be able to have spent this last week in Florence and am excited to continue my journey over the next two weeks in Rome.
