My experience in Italy has been amazing so far. Yesterday, my study abroad class went to the market in Florence. The market is one of the top ten attractions to visit while in Florence. Within the market, there were several different shops that sold food and other products. The market was different from anything I have ever seen in America before. The fruit was fresh and sitting out for people to grab. One thing that shocked me the most was the meat section. There were chickens with their heads still on. Our professor informed us they keep the head on to show the customers how fresh the chicken was. There was also rabbit meat which I had never heard of before. The market was filled with culture and as I walked through I was able to be a part of the Italian traditions.
A couple of days ago, my group climbed the steps of the Duomo. The Duomo is a historic cathedral which stands in the heart of Florence. The Duomo has over 400 steps, but once at the top, the view is worth it. Our group climbed the Duomo and was able to take in the amazing views of Florence. So far, this has been one of my favorite parts of the program. Looking out at the buildings and different architecture gave me the opportunity to appreciate their beauty. I can’t wait for the rest of my time in Italy, and I look forward to learning more about Italy’s amazing culture.
