Italy: Italian Drivers

Submitted by Iva Grant on the 2019 summer session program in Italy sponsored by the School of Nursing…

Coming to Italy has been an adventure that I will forever be grateful to attend. It was not a huge culture shock when we arrived, but being immersed in this culture has broadened my views on different aspects of my life. I was surprised at the roads and infrastructure as well as how people drive in Florence. The roads are very narrow and crowded with people, but cars still manage to pass through. Also, coming from America and Delaware specifically, yielding to pedestrians is to be expected, in Italy, either they stop at the last minute or they do not see you at all. All in all, I am appreciative to have been able to experience this lifestyle that is laid back and not in a rush for everything to happen. I will take many lessons and the Italian way of life back home and use in my everyday life.
