This week in Italy has been just as great as the first. One day, we spent the afternoon touring the streets of Siena. We were able to go inside the Duomo di Siena which is a beautiful church. Inside there are paintings and statutes, each telling their own story. This week, we also went to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We all were able to take our pictures around the tower pretending to hold it up. We then climbed the tower which has 297 steps. While, this was about 100 steps fewer than the Duomo in Florence which we climbed last week, the view from the top was still beautiful. Lastly, this week, we were able to see the Statue of David. This statue was made around 1501 by Michelangelo, a famous Italian artist. It stands 17 feet tall and is a big part of Florence art. This marble statue was my favorite piece of art of the entire program. I was able to stand close and see all the detail Michelangelo put into his work. This week we spent a lot of time looking at artwork that is hundreds of years old, but a big part of the Italian culture. I was able to admire and appreciate each artwork as I learned about its history.
