Submitted by Morgan Thomas on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Art…
The last week of the program, we said our good-byes to Florence and traveled to Rome, stopping in Assisi on the way. Our final week consisted of plenty of sightseeing and less of drawing than the rest of the program. We traveled to Pompeii, took a tour of Rome, and on our free day, I visited the Vatican with a group of friends. It was definitely a productive use of our fleeting time in Rome. Staying in a hotel for those four nights was a much different dynamic than in Florence where we were staying in different parts of the city. From the rooftop seating area of our hotel, you can see a beautiful panoramic view of Rome. The final week made me realize how grateful I am for the friendships created on this program. It has only been a few days and I wish I was back in Italy. I will miss the food, the architecture, attempting to speak Italian, but mostly the group of students and professors on this program. I had the most incredible time this past month, my expectations were certainly exceeded. I hope to visit Florence again in the near future.
