Speechless In Florence, Italy

Submitted by Gianna Lorusso on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Finance and the Department of English…

As I began preparing for my study abroad program, my friends and family consistently told me about the wonders of the city of Florence. As soon as I walked into the heart of the city, I gasped at the beauty of the famous Duomo. I knew immediately that I would fall head over heels in love with this city. We went on walking tours, where we learned about the history of the famous Medici Family and the city of Florence. We walked over the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge and marveled at the view of the buildings along the water. I made a promise to my Grandma that I would visit the famous Statue of David, and I am so eager to tell her all about it as soon as I get home. I absolutely loved Florence because it is full of history and life. As I was walking the streets, I thought about all the different people who walked these same roads thousands of years ago. One of my favorite moments in Florence was when we climbed the Duomo. The climb was difficult, but it was worth every step. I was speechless at the view of the city around me. Looking out at the view, I realized that this world is huge and there are hundreds of breathtaking views to see. And I want to see all of them.
