During our last week on Oahu, we tried to cram all the last minute activities we wanted to do before going to the big island. One of these activities was going to Kualoa Ranch. At this ranch, we learned how the land was once owned by the Queen of Hawaii and then sold to a European family for $5,000 dollars, but now the ranch is estimated to be worth 1 billion dollars. On this tour, I was also able to witness how accommodating Hawaiians are to people that speak other languages. For example, before we went on an all terrain vehicles tour, the instructor brought us a book that had the script of the instructional video in many different languages such as Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc. This was also illustrated on the boat tour at the ranch where they had a Japanese interpreter for a group from Japan. In Hawaii, they are more overtly inclusive than anywhere else I have been.
