Gaining An Advantage In Spain

Submitted by Corey Perkins on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Granada, Spain sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures…

It’s hard to believe we have less than one week left in Spain. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to have been able to travel abroad with such a fantastic group of people and such patient and supportive program advisors and professors. I lucked out on this program, and also had the greatest host mom along with great roommates. Some classmates and I are using our free weekend to travel to Barcelona where we will visit the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, and the Picasso Museum. There were so many sites we wanted to see while we were in Barcelona, that we ended up changing our hotel so that we are in the center of it all. I have been looking forward to this trip since before we left for Spain, so it’s crazy that I am packed and ready to go to the airport in just a few hours. I’m glad that the Granada program consisted of so many day trips through our culture class because there are so many historical sites we learn about, however, it’s incredibly eye-opening and quite the learning experience to be there yourself.

The first week of classes, for our conversation course, we took an exam to get a feel for our skill level. Next week, we will be doing the final for the class where we will see where we have improved and what we have learned in these four weeks. I am looking forward to taking this exam because I feel as if my speaking and writing skills have grown so much, so I can’t wait to see what the results of the exam will be. I am looking to get more involved in clubs at Delaware so that I can keep up with my speaking and writing since I only have one class left for my certificate. Studying abroad in Spain really put me at an advantage inside and out of the classroom, and I am looking forward to using all of the knowledge I gained this month in class this semester!
