England: Tower Bridge

Submitted by Madison Mitchell on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in London, England sponsored by the Department of Communication…

As my final week abroad in London comes to a close, my roommate, Leah, and I were able to spend our last moments exploring around the city. Our favorite location we visited was Tower Bridge. In order to get to the bridge, we decided to take a ferry boat rather than the tube to see the city from a different perspective. Upon getting to the bridge, rather than just walking across, Leah and I decided to climb the bridge to learn about the history of the iconic landmark and to see a great view of the River Thames. At the top of Tower Bridge, we learned that the bridge still opens to allow larger boats to pass through. Additionally, we were able to look into the engine room to get a glimpse of how the bridge operates daily. Exploring the Tower Bridge in person was also a surreal experience because we have seen it in several music videos and movies. Overall, my time in London was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I hope to return again in the future.
