Sightseeing And Public Relations In London, England

Submitted by Morgan Young on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in London, England sponsored by the Department of Communication…

One class down and one more to go! Winter study abroad is already halfway over and we are already moving onto our second class. We have finished up public relations, and have just started studying advertising! Yesterday was probably the busiest and most exciting day we have had so far here in London. The day was split into two, starting with a tour of St. Paul’s Cathedral followed by doing a workshop with a PR agency.

We had a tour of the interior of the church and were given a tour of the crypt below it. It was fascinating to learn all the facts about how it was made and that it took 40 years. The freestanding staircases were beautiful and the stain glass windows were mesmerizing. The cathedral is 365 feet tall and the front doors weigh two tons! I would never want to try to pull those open. We were not allowed to take pictures of the inside of St. Paul’s, but I was able to snap some beautiful pics of the outside!

After the tour, we made our way to Hunter PR Company which has its headquarters in New York City. They discussed their jobs and explained what a PR company really does on a day to day basis. Being a fashion major, I was not familiar with the world of communications prior to this study abroad program so it was exciting to learn and it may be a new interest of mine! We did a case study on one of their biggest clients, Tabasco Pepper Sauce, which really helped me to understand the work that goes into PR. Yesterday was such an amazing day, and definitely one of the highlights of my London study abroad program so far.
