France: Exploring Paris

Submitted by Hannah Kish on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Paris, France sponsored by the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies…

This week was a very relaxing week. I spent the first day of the week with my roommates and our teacher, Katya. She brought us to City Pharma. City Pharma is a really cool pharmacy for beauty products. When you go in, there are employees in lab coats waiting to give you advice on what to buy. I asked about hair and skin and they picked out products in 30 seconds. It is also cool because they aren’t getting commission for selling products so you know they are being genuine. We also went to the mustard store, Maille, with Katya. It was really awesome to get to know our
professor a little bit better. The rest of the week was a little quieter. Men’s fashion week was up in the air for us because of the Yellow Vests, so we had several free days. We had a couple of classes, but there was a lot of time to explore Paris and it was great. We were able to go to so many luxury stores and the famous department stores that we have been wanting to go to. I ate so much delicious food and couldn’t be happier. At the end the week, we started at the Rick Owens showroom. My job was to make sure all of the racks were in order and to make sure the models were displaying the correct garments. Rick Owens’ new collection is absolutely amazing. It was extremely inspiring and I feel so lucky to be able to have this opportunity. I am going back there tomorrow and a couple of  more days this week. Also this week, haute couture fashion week starts and I am stoked. It is going to be so tiring, but so awesome. Paris is a great city and I feel at home here. The language barrier doesn’t feel so big anymore. I am very comfortable here and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead of us.
