Submitted by Samantha Cuomo on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Australia and New Zealand sponsored by the Department of Business Administration…
Unfortunately, my time in New Zealand has come to and end, but I want to talk about some of my favorite experiences. My two favorite places to visit on the whole program were Devonport and Rotorua.
Devonport was only a short ferry ride away from the port in Auckland. It was a quaint little town with a bunch of little shops, places to eat, beaches and hiking opportunities. This one hill, North Head, had the most amazing view I’ve yet to see on this program. When you looked out from the top of the hill you could see the beach, the town, and all the homes. I’ve never seen a more breathtaking view in my life.
I arrived at Rotorua on a Thursday. Every Thursday in the summer, there’s this market with live music, food trucks and shops. The live band was so good that I bought the band’s CD. I also tried a beef and lamb kabob at the market because New Zealand is known for their beef and lamb industry, which I wrote a paper on for my study abroad assignment. The shops sold jewelry and other items that were made in New Zealand Overall, I had a great time at the market and I was glad I was there to experience it.
Good-bye Auckland and hello Sydney!
